The Fashion Forward Ways to Wear Faux Fur and Faux Leather this Season

I recently worked with Brick and Portal on a recent collab to show some new leather looks worn with faux fur. If you don’t know, this is the new trend for the cold season. See how the photographer captured these shots of me in the streets of NYC. My friend, Jenn, works part-time at Brick and Portal and worked as the creative director on this project, as she helped pick out all styles, got some inspiration shots offline, and then directed the shoot and chose the location for each look. Since it is Jenn’s birthday today and she is such a special friend, I thought I would give her and her blog a little shoutout today. It’s also a great feature about a lot of ways girls from ages 15 to 30 can continue rocking their inner punk side on the streets of the city.

As mentioned in Jenn’s recent post, this new faux fur and faux leather trend is full throttle. With the weather cooling down, it’s the perfect time to bring the heat while rocking this animal-friendly trend.

SO HOW DO WE ROCK THIS FAUX FUR LOOK?

Throw on a little faux fur with your basic neutrals and skinny jeans

Jenn loved working on this project because for her, faux fur with leather has always been a favorite trend of hers. She is obsessed with talking about how to wear faux fur, especially because she is so environmentally conscious and sensitive to the animals. But even in NYC, you see women everyday wearing real fox, rabbit, and wolf fur everywhere you look (GUILTY, I must say). Burning Man is the # one place where you’ll see many burners glamorously wandering the desert at night in fur royalty from head to foot. It’s quite a scene, but again, if you are focused on an everyday stylish look in your city, try to lean away from the real fur and get in touch with your animal-friendly side. It’ll likely make people smile your direction than give a  frown at your outrageously expensive chic real fur style. Then again, guilty!

Wearing a faux fur jacket is hands down the easiest way to make any outfit look chic. Colorful furry jackets have taken the fashion scene by storm for the past few seasons. Even some of the most high-end designers are rocking them, including Gucci, Helmut Lang, and Miu Miu. Traditionally, fur jackets and coats were typically worn by either rich socialites or older women with a lot of money. However, designers decided it was time to make the fur look more accessible and debuted faux fur on the runway a few years back, and the trend has been a hit ever since. In 2017, the trend has evolved with the addition of bright pops of color and different textures of faux fur.

Now that faux fur jackets have become more accessible, anyone can rock one and look chic. Faux fur can turn the simplest of outfits into a full-on fashion statement. I love rocking it with ripped jeans and edgy booties to keep your inner rockstar shining out.

Minimal accessories like a boho-inspired necklace and pompom beret are a great way to keep your rocking outfit casual while trendy. Also add some shades like these stunners inspired from Kate Hudson in Almost Famous to keep your style radiating like you are about to open up for an up-and-coming rock band on their concert tour.

Many high-end fashion labels are embracing faux leather in various styles. Vinyl pants are all the rage this season but can be complicated to pull off. Vinyl is the faux version of patent leather and can be worn if you are looking for an edgy, rocker chic look. Wearing vinyl pants with a cool graphic tee, a bomber jacket, and a colorful pair of sunglasses will make you look like a grungy fashionista.

We saw a lot of fashion bloggers and celebs pulling off this vinyl pant look throughout Fall 2017’s fashion week in NYC, Milan and Paris. Pairing vinyl pants with a concert t-shirt, a bomber jacket, and colorful sunglasses is the effortlessly cool way to look casual chic without trying too hard.

You can also rock the faux leather pants trend with a animal-friendly faux leather jacket. Feel like a style queen inside and out, and add a slogan t-shirt to the mix to flaunt your inner badass. My “go-to’s” are pairing it with over-sized, tinted sunnies feel invincible while sauntering through the crowds. Happy fashion ladies, get going on your confidence because it’s all about YOU that makes your inner rockstar shine out. Go with something that makes you feel and look good, like a Kate Hudson, in Almost Famous. Soon, you’ll find heads turning wherever you go.
